Departure

for Mirra

When you left
I felt something
like a small rubber mallet
whack
against my heart
a little more than lightly
but less than violent,
like a physician's efficient
tap to test my reflexes.

The impact rippled
across my thumping heart
like a delicate tsunami
rolls around the world,
disturbing no land masses
but reshuffling all the fish.
